Council

Indian Springs Alumni Council

Led by Alumni Council President Sarah Mills Nee ’03, the Indian Springs School Alumni Council is a group of dedicated alumni who assist in promoting the school’s mission and enhancing the quality of the experience provided to Indian Springs students. The Alumni Council also includes the Head of School, Director of Advancement, and Chair of the Board of Governors.

Meetings are held four times a year. Each Council member serves a term of three years and participates on one of the committees listed below. Indian Springs is grateful for the vital roles that Alumni Council members play in supporting, promoting, and enriching the Indian Springs community.

Council Committees

The Alumni Participation Committee is primarily responsible for engaging alumni through targeted events and communications throughout the year. This committee will be expected to participate in the planning and implementation of the Holiday Party. This committee will also be expected to help promote (and attend, if at all possible, one) out-of-town alum receptions in New York, DC, and Atlanta. This committee is responsible for working with the Advancement Office to help solicit donations from fellow alumni to support the School’s goals and initiatives. Finally, this committee will be tasked with working with the Advancement team on programming for the current seniors as they graduate and become new alums. This committee would be a good committee for those council members who are local, as well as those who live in Atlanta, NY, and DC (particularly if they plan to be in Birmingham on December 23!)

The Ambassador Committee is tasked with representing Indian Springs to the broader community. This committee will be asked to attend open houses with potential new families, be a resource for potential new families researching the school, as well as staffing the admissions weekends that the school hosts, and assisting the Advancement team as needed, but specifically over Alumni Weekend. This committee is best for those younger alums on the committee, as well as those who live in the Birmingham area and have some evening flexibility. This committee would work closely with the Admissions and Advancement team of the school.

The membership committee will be responsible for selecting and nominating the next slate of council members. This committee will work with the Board of Directors’ Governance Committee to cultivate a strong list of candidates. This committee would be good for those who live anywhere, so long as they are willing and available to reach out to fellow alums to nominate candidates, as well as to ask selected fellow alums to serve.

The Outstanding Alum Award Committee is responsible for facilitating the selection of the recipient of the Outstanding Alum Award each year – in consultation with the school administration and the Board of Directors. The Committee is also responsible for organizing the award presentation during Alumni Weekend. This committee would be good for those members who live everywhere – although at least one member needs to be in Birmingham over Alumni Weekend to present the award.
